The Gallia County Chapter of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association
met December 10, 2009 at the new Catholic Church Fellowship hall. President Barb Shelton opened the meeting with a humorous
story about Christmas sweaters and made some Christmas remarks. She welcomed "first timer" Rex Greenlee, husband
of member Louise Greenlee. Henry Dillon said grace before the delicious meal of ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans and
assorted desserts. After all were finished eating we gave the cooks a round of applause.
Under committee reports
Karen Cornell reminded us volunteer hours must be turned in to her prior to January 15, 2010 when her report is due at the
state ORTA office.
Henry Dillon presented the treasurer's report (as of 11-30-09) as follows:
Checking
$2978.78
Local Life Savings 7687.64
Scholarship Savings
86.51
Local Life Membership CD -0-
Scholarship CD's
21,017.32
Henry reported he has cashed the Local Life Membership CD that came due in November.
This has cleared up our "cash flow" problem. The Scholarship CDs are due to mature in April and he will re-do them
at that time.
Today's raffle consisted of numerous items donated by Doug and Janet Wetherholt as well as a pineapple
cake baked and donated by Barb Shelton. The winners are:
Wil Church
- cake; Irene Surber - fridge magnets; Eileen Stitt - topsy turvy doll; Patsy Schuldt - decorative box; Karen Cornell - decorative
box; Barb Shelton - magnets; Lois Carter - picture frame; Norm Snyder - magnets; Louise Greenlee - teacup; Jean Cassidy -
crystal dish
Mrs. Claus
(aka Vicki Powell) made an entrance. She read aloud a British humor book by John Norris about the Twelve Days of Christmas.
This reading consisted of letters exchanged between "Emily and Edward" from Christmas through January 6, Epiphany
about the 12 gifts of Christmas.
The executive meeting to plan for 2010 will be held January 7 at the Dillon's.
Marlene Hoffman then led the traditional Christmas Sing-along. Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Marlene Hoffman, Secretary
