Gallia County Retired Teachers Monthly Luncheon Presbyterian Church June 9, 2011

MEETING:
At 12:07 p.m. the meeting was called to order by President Barb Shelton and the Pledge of Allegiance was said by all. Henry
Dillon offered prayer for the meal and the meeting. First-timers Cathy Elliott and Jerry Davis were welcomed. Birthdays recognized
were: Cliff Wilson (5/23), Robin Lane (6/4) and Bev Gettles (6/15). Anniversaries: Ellen Schopis (6/4),
Diana Drummond (6/10), Jerry Webb (6/10), Walter Stowers (6/23). A moment of silence was observed for the passing of
Phillis Todd on June 9, 2011.
SPEAKER:
John Milhoan introduced the guest speaker for the meeting, Karen Butt, ORTA State President. A graduate of Ohio University
and a retired physical education teacher, Karen resides in Johnstown, Ohio in Licking County.
Karen’s spoke
about many topics and was very informative. The topics included: 12/12 Contribution (at this time this is not going
to happen), COLA, Senate Bill 5, House Bill 69, Senate Bill 3, Defined Benefit, and insurance. Insurance premiums will be
increased by 10 to 13 percent.
Karen encouraged members to contact their legislators through letter writing,
email, or telephone calls, reminding them to be calm and courteous to get their concerns across. Keep diligent.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Scholarship: Wanda Willis and the Scholarship committee announced the Katherine Williams Retired Teachers
Scholarship winners. Each recipient will each receive $350.00.

Academy: Halee Myers, parents - Brenda Dyer and the late Earl Myers South Gallia: Tayler Duncan, parents - Paul and Roberta Hamilton Duncan River Valley: Kelcie Carter, parents – Larry and Kelly Carter
The committee
members are: Wanda Willis, Nancy Hood, and Karen Cornell. The recipients will be at the August meeting to receive
their checks.

1. A motion was made by
Karen Cornell to renew the fee for the website, seconded by Will Church. Motion carried. 2. Gail Pohlman a retired school nurse from Gallia County Local Schools serving in the Peace Corps in Africa requested a
donation from anyone interested to help purchase a projector for use with her students.
3. Raffle - $74.00 raised. Winners were: Will Church, Louise Greenlee, Robin Lane, Irene Surber and Karen
Cornell. Thanks to Nancy Hood and Julie Dragoo for donating items for the raffle.
NEXT MEETING: August 11, 2011 – First Baptist Church. This meeting is a potluck
meal, so everyone bring a covered dish as you are able.
