you to the “cooks”, in other words pat yourself on the back, the meal was potluck. A big thank-you to the First
Baptist Church for providing the air-conditioned fellowship room for our luncheon and meeting. Barb read a thank-you note
from Karen Butt, ORTA President.
Wanda Willis, scholarship committee chairwoman remarked
she and her committee, Nancy Hood and Karen Cornell enjoyed reading the applications immensely. There were 12 applications
and all the essays were good. She then introduced the scholarship ($350) winners. Halee Myers –
Gallia Academy HS – daughter of Brenda Myers & the late Earl Myers Tayler Duncan –
South Gallia HS – daughter of Paul and Roberta (Hamilton) Duncan Kelcie Carter – River
Valley HS – daughter of Larry & Kelly Carter
Kelcie was unable to attend today. Halee and Tayler both
made short remarks to the group. Halee will be attending the University of Rio Grande majoring in general studies with the
intention to go into elementary education. She had good teachers and wants to give back some of what she received. Tayler
will be attending the University of Rio Grande, majoring in Special Education. In her application essay Wanda mentioned Tayler
made special mention of one of her teachers, Sue Ruff who had a positive influence on her. Sue is one of our members. Congratulations
to all three young ladies!
Marlene Hoffman announced a leadership/web workshop to be held at the ORTA building
on September 19 and/or 20th.
Marlene read an article written by Regina Brett of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, “45
Life Lessons by a 90 year old”.

by members were 2 afghans by Nancy Hood; a corn hole score keeper by Karen Cornell and a tote bag by Darla Saunders. The winners
were: Tayler Duncan (tote bag); Chris Williams (OSU afghan); Robin Lane (Marshall afghan); Barb Shelton (corn hole score keeper).
Marlene brought us up to date on legislation, primarily the SB5 referendum and the continuing need to advocate for
maintaining DEFINED BENEFIT rather than Defined Contribution that some are advocating
for our retirement. It is important to contact our legislators and let them know where we stand on these and other issues.
It is imperative that we VOTE come November!!
Respectfully Submitted,
Marlene Hoffman, Secretary
