Meeting: The meeting was called to order by President Barb Shelton at 12 p.m. Birthdays were recognized for Ellen Schopis, Darla Saunders, Julie Dragoo, Janet Wetherholt and Glenn Graham.  Marsha Haynes was welcomed as a “first-timer”. The prayer was offered by Glenn Graham and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was led by Barb Shelton. We called the cooks out from the kitchen for a round of applause for the tasty meal, we got on their schedule for the 2012 October meeting.

Melvin Biars from Floral Fashion was introduced. Melvin gave a very informative and often humorous presentation of current trends in floral fashion, briefly put: feathers and bling. He also gave many small prizes, too numerous to mention, as well as several beautiful large ticket floral items. He also donated today’s raffle item, which netted $142. Melvin is always most generous when he comes to speak to us but this year he outdid himself in his generosity. A great big THANK YOU to Melvin. We’ve booked him for the 2012 October meeting.

Committee Reports: Karen Cornell reminded everyone to turn in volunteer hours at the December meeting. She distributed forms for those who need them. The current "ORTA Quarterly" has volunteer hours as it’s cover story.  The combined worth of total volunteer hours turned in to the state ORTA is over TEN MILLION DOLLARS! And that is only the hours actually turned in, most folks do volunteer work they don’t think to turn in. It’s important to keep track of those volunteer hours, both large and small. The do add up!

Marlene Hoffman, web master, reported she attended a helpful and informative ORTA web workshop presented by Deloris Ullmann in Columbus September 19. (check Marlene out on p. 13 of  the "Quarterly") She also reported she now has the entire newsletter on the website. Karen Cornell suggested folks should visit the website and check out what is there. The address is: galliarta.org

There was a discussion on Issue 2. If we care about current teachers as well as our own well being we should VOTE NO on Issue 2. Everyone is encouraged however, to read up on all issues and vote your conscience when you cast your ballot on November 8.
